Wintel platform for 2012 tablets featuring new Intel processors and Microsoft Windows 8 OS

A new platform for the tablets is now under preparation, and these new tablets are expected to be a much more successful one, than the tablets that features "ARM + Android" combination. This new platform for the tablets, named as Wintel platform for tablets will be made by the combine effort of both Intel and Microsoft.

It should be noted that the tablets featuring "ARM + Android" platform were unanimously blamed for various reasons like it can't match up with the attractive image of the brand Apple and also for some serious errors in the Android OS. Disappointed with the fact that sales of tablets on ARM + Android were lower than expected, most manufacturer's are now figuring out options for changing their strategy.

This upcoming version of platform for the tablets, Wintel platform features an Intel processor with a TDP of less than 5 watts and Microsoft Windows 8 operating system. In order to encourage manufacturers to switch to Microsoft Windows 8, it is widely expected that Intel will set lower prices for it's new processors.

With the introduction of this new platform, Wintel platform, both Intel and Microsoft are expecting that they can leave in the past all the problems with unfinished Android 3.0 and 3.1 OS's and are also in a hope of making a successful competition with Apple iPad.

Intel’s Anti-Theft Technology

Recently intel introduced its new Anti-Theft technology for the mobile computers.Intel AT-p for notebooks provides the option to activate hardware-based client-side intelligence to secure the PC and its data in the event the notebook is lost or stolen.

Simply the new technology provides the users with the ability to send a "poison pill" remotely which makes the notebook inoperable by comprehensively shutting it down. This eliminates the risk of stolen or lost notebook. The user can reactivate the notebook by using the recovery token or local password.

Intel Anti-Theft Technology Features

Data access disable
  • Protect encrypted data from unauthorized access
  • Secure hardware environments through software-based encryption keys placed in escrow instead of on the hard disk
  • Protect PCs with tamper-resistant hardware
PC disable
  • Minimize sensitive data being accessed or stolen
  • Disable the PC locally or remotely
  • Intel® Anti-Theft Technology can assist as a theft deterrence tool since the PC becomes inoperable, thereby unattractive to steal

Intel Core 2 Quad Q8300 Features

The Q8300,quad core processor from intel family is a 45nm Penryn derived part, and consists of two dual core die's in an MCM (multi-chip module) module like all other current Core 2 Quad processors. By contrast, the Core i7 has all four cores on a single die.

The Q8300 is easy on your hydro bill, and gives pretty darn good performance for the buck. Its overclocking is limited by the 1333MHz FSB, but you are extremely likely to be able to run at 3.375GHz (450x7.5) on any decent motherboard, and that is 175MHz faster than the stock speed of the extremely expensive QX9770.

There are basically three variants of the 45nm Core 2 Quad:

  • 6MB of L2 cache per die (12MB per MCM)
  • 3MB of L2 cache per die (6MB per MCM)
  • 2MB of L2 cache per die (4MB per MCM)

In a nutshell, the more L2 cache a chip has, the faster it will run software - so Intel prices the processors by a combination of L2 cache size and frequency; however there is a potential price advantage to parts with a smaller L2 cache, as it allows Intel to use a smaller die, thus getting more dies per wafer, instead of disabling part of a larger cache.

Theoretically, with a smaller die, the 45nm Core 2 Quad Q8300 ought to be a great overclocker - unfortunately the rather low multiplier of 7.5 will drastically limit the overclocking potential of the chip due to its normal 1333MHz FSB.

Intel Core 2 Quad Q8300 Processor Specifications:

  • Product Family: Intel® Core™2 Quad Processor
  • Code Name: Products formerly Yorkfield
  • Status: Available
  • Mfg Availability: 2+ Years
  • Lithography: 45 nm
  • Number of Cores: 4
  • L1 Cache: 4 x 32KB I cache, 4 x 32KB D cache
  • L2 Cache: 2 x 2 MB
  • FSB: 1333MHz
  • Clock Speed: 2.5GHz (7.5x333)
  • Intel® 64 Architecture: Yes
  • Enhanced Intel SpeedStep® Technology: Yes
  • Execute Disable Bit: Yes
  • Intel® Trusted Execution Technology: No
  • Package Size: 37.5mm x 37.5mm
  • Tcase: 71.4°C Max
  • TDP: 95 Watts
  • Core Voltage: 0.962V-1.225V
  • 1k Estimated Price: $183.00
It is the second lowest power consuming processor in the world. While considering with Intel Core i7 and other core 2 quad processors, this one is better for all needs.

INTEL NOW INTRODUCING 8 CORE(OCTA-CORE) PROCESSORS

Intel disclosed certain details regarding the company’s octa-core Intel Xeon processors code-named Beckton that are projected to be released either in very late 2009 or sometime in 2010. Apparently, modular architecture of the chip as well as so-called “cache and core recovery” technology will allow Intel to disable defective cores and caches within the new chip and still sell the product.
Intel’s Nehalem processors will be available with up to eight cores and multithreading technology to enable them to run up to 16 threads in parallel.Intel will be providing more detailed information about the Nehalem processor lineup. According to the conference program, 45 nm Nehalem processors are on the way for mobile, desktop and server applications.
The new Intel's octa-core(8 core) processor contains 2.3 billion transistors It also contain 9 MB L2 and 16 MB L3 cache, which Intel claims is able to exceed a 1 million transactions per minute TPCC in a 8-socket configuration.
