Recently the laptop market has changed with the introduction of the Asus Eee PC-low cost mini laptop.In support of this Intel has introduced the Atom Processor,designed speccially for low cost laptops.The MSI Wind 100 is the first laptopto use the Intel Atom processor.MSI wind 100 is loaded with Intel's Atom N270 processor.
The MSI Wind have similar designs queues just like the Asus Eee PC.The MSI wind is made from white plastic.A black version of MSI wind is available from july with a 3-cell battery taking up the back of the unit.The MSI Wind weighs about 1KG,which is nicely balanced while considering 10 inch super TFT screen with a resolutio of 1024 x 600 pixels.Image quality look great and it looked sharp while running on battery power.
MSI wind's keyboard is a good size one and easy for use.The touchpad and single-strip mouse button is on the small side but it doesn't take too much away from the usability.The screen usage means it gives a lot more like a standard laptop than either the Asus Eee PC or the HP 2133 Mini-Note PC.When it comes to performance, you'll find a state-of-the-art Intel Atom N270 processor that is the smallest mobile chip to date.
The MSI Wind 100 is preloaded with Windows Xp Professional,which will be run with ease.The Atom is a 45nm chip that measures just 22mm across and has been designed to run in fan-less systems wit quietly and coolly.
MSI wind uses the standard 945GSE chipset which has a minimum development cost,but it does mean the Front Side Bus (FSB) is limited to a maximum of 533MHz.So it doesn't give much performance gain over the current Celeron M chips being used in the Asus Eee PC.
MSI uses a new tip called Turbo Boost in its hand no one else seems to offer at this stage.
Turbo boost is a tool which uses the company's own Turbo Drive Engine Technology to physically overclock the CPU.With this tool the MSI Wind 100 pushes the Intel Atom N270 to a speed of 1.9GHz.
The laptop comes with a 80GB hard drive and 1024 DDR2 memory and can be ugraded upto 2GB.Other features of MSI wind 100 includes 3 USB ports,ethernet,Wi-Fi,Bluetooth andmemory card reader.MSI Wind 100 is perfectly suited for those who needs basic functions and not for those who need high performance.
