Nvidia Ion is a graphics-based platform which is designed for Intel’s Atom processor is getting more popular. After the launch of nVidia Ion, many netbooks have been developed on the basis of new technology. Actually Nvidia Ion is a motherboard platform that includes Nvidia's GeForce 9400M (MCP79) chipset, DDR3-1066 or DDR2-800 SDRAM, along with the Intel Atom processor.
After the great success of the ION platform, nVidia is coming with the new ION2 platform. Sources indicate that the new nVidia ION2 will be launched by Q4 2009 and still there were no confirmation about the launch by the Nvidia company. ION is still doing a good business in the market and nvidia plans to take over the market with the new ION2.
Nvidia ION2 is coming with twice the graphics power as that of the current ION processors. Also there will be many designs coming under the ION2 for the netbooks and the ultra low voltage computers. Intel also start using Nvidia more than earlier before just like AMD using it now. The ION 2 platform is also expected to enable support for a wider range of processors, including the VIA Nano CPU, providing system manufacturers with a bit more flexibility when building a new, low-power, low-cost computer system.
