GM plans to make india the developement and manufacturing hub of powertrains for the asia pacific region.This is one the latest and hottest news in the automobile segment.The company will develop new engines for emerging markets from its R&D centre in banglore.It is also looking at exports from its upcoming power-train unit in alegoan,near Pune.
Karl slym,president and managing director of GM india reckons at 200,000 units a yearthe powertrain facilitywill have excess capacity over domestic demand and since the power train units built in india will be of small capacities,they acan be exported to the emerging markets in the Asia-Pacific and the Eastern European region. GMI will hire about 300 employees for its R & D centre and about 200 workers for its manufacturing unit.
