Bluetooth 3.0 official Specfications
Bluetooth 3.0 is now official and was unveiled officially on last tuesday. Bluetooth 3.0,the high speed wireless connection technology is one of the latest iteration of the personal area networking technology. The new Bluetooth 3.0 aims to improve th speed of data transmission by using the power of 802.11 standards. Bluetooth 3.0 was bulid upon using all the existing features of Bluetooth 2.1 .
Bluetooth 3.0 Technology uses the 802.11 radio protocol, which enables it to take advantage of 802.11 speeds and will allow the Generic AMP to be used with an 802.11 radio. ie; new specification is developed for allowing Bluetooth over Wi-Fi. Using the 802.11 radio protocol, average transfer rates are between 22-26Mbps and devices even get better battery life.
Other Bluetooth 3.0 features include Unicast Connectionless Data giving 3.0 devices improved responsiveness and noticeably better battery life; and Enhanced Power Control which reduces the incidence of disconnects caused by movement such as placing a phone in pocket or purse. Devices that uses Bluetooth 3.0 will realize power savings due to built-in power controls.
In order to take advantage of the speed of 802.11, the new specification includes the 802.11 Protocol Adaptation Layer (PAL), which increases throughput to a theoretical maximum of 24 Mbps — enough to enable you to transmit not just images and contacts but HD videos and entire music libraries.One thing not in the new specification: improved audio. With the advent of stereo Bluetooth audio, a number of headsets have been released, all with poor quality audio.
Major chip manufacturers such as Broadcom and Atheros have already finalized the new bluetooth 3.0 technology and said that chips based on the new bluetooth specificationwill be available from the end of this year. According to Bluetooth SIG chief Mike Foley, "any phone or computer that has Bluetooth 2.1+EDR and a 802.11 G card may be able to be updated to Bluetooth 3.0 via driver, firmware, or software update" — meaning millions of existing cell phones and computers can take advantage of the new features.
The sad news is that we have to wait for atleast 6-9 months for devices featuring Bletooth 3.0 technology.

Very nice to see this article. I've heard many good things about bluetooth 3.0 because of it's significant better battery life.
