HP Introduces Next-Generation Home Server

Last Monday,Hewlett-Packard launched the next generation Windows-based home server.It comes with nearly four times the memory as the previous version and more storage capacity.
The ex485 and ex487 are the two different models among HP MediaSmart Server.The two model differ only in its storage capacity.

The ex485 has a capacity of 750-GB,7200 RPM SATA hard disk drive and the ex487 comes with two of the same drives for a total of 1.5 TB. The Previous generation server had a baxe capacity of 500GB which released in late 2007.

Provision of a central place for backing up and accessing digital music, videos, photos, and other files from multiple computers on a home network is the key idea behind the MediaSmart Server.Windows PCs and Apple Macs running Leopard using Apple Time Machine software are supported by HP Servers.

A photo-sharing tool that includes integration with several online services,including Facebook,Flickr,Snapfish and Picasa is one of the new features in the latest product.Amazon S3 integration for online backups is also included in it. The system comes standard with 2 GB of DDR2 memory in the place of 512 GB(first generation) and is powered by an Intel Celeron 2.0-GHz 64-bit processor.

Other noticable feature is that the home servers are easier to use.It has a size of 5.5 inches wide, 9.8 inches high, and 9.2 inches deep.There are four USB 2.0 ports, one in the front and three in the back, and one eSATA port for connecting an external hard drive. The ex485 costs $599 and the ex487 is $749.The product should be available by the end of january.
