Tata Aria specifications, Reviews and technical details

Digg it !!!

Tata Motors are now all set to launch their new car, Tata Aria, which lies in the range between SUV and MUV. The main thing to be noted is that for the first time ever, in Aria, Tata is using a brand new ladder-frame chassis, popularly called the X2 platform instead of it's much acclaimed Tata 207 platform.

The car, which is available in both two wheel drive (2WD) and four wheel drive (4WD) options sports a 2.2L, 16 Valve VTT DICOR engine that produces 140bhp power at the rate of 4000 rpm and a torque of 320Nm at the rate of 1700-2700 rpm. Also the 2.2L Dicor engine has been refined with rubber mounts which has played a significant role in cutting the unwanted vibrations.

This is for the first time that the full time four wheel drive option is getting implemented in a car by Tata. The disc brakes used in the rear end of the car is another feature that is introduced for the first time in a Tata Car. In order to generate adequate stopping power, Tata's have used 17 inch alloys and ABS.

The other notable thing related with this new car is that the Tata Aria has 18 ECU's (Electrically controlled units), and 8 of them actually cross-communicate with each other. Various features like cruise control, navigation, ABS, airbags, AWD and EBS do run independently but they need to communicate with each other as and when required.

Some other notable features of this new Tata Aria are :

  • Leather covered steering wheel, gear shift knob and seats
  • Headrest mounted LCD screen
  • Power steering and power windows at all four doors
  • Automatic climate control AC
  • Cup holders on floor console
  • Cigarette lighter and ash-tray in front console
  • Rear wash and wiper
  • Keyless entry
  • Advanced DVD/MP3 system with dual LCD screens
  • Electrical glass demister
  • Digital outside temperature indicator
  • USB/Bluetooth connectivity
  • 3D sound

This new Tata Aria, which is visibly similar to the Tata Indica and Tata Safari is expected to hit markets by mid-2010 and would be shelved in the price bracket of 12-14 Lakhs.
