Lewis Hamilton clinched world driver’s championship in an astonishing climax to the Formula One season, at the age of 23 becoming the youngest ever champion.Hamilton needs fifth or better position to get the championship and he did it with ease.
Massa won the Brazilian Grand Prix on sunday in one of the most dramatic Formula One finales in recent years, but failed by just one point to become the first Brazilian to clinch the overall title since Senna in 1991 after Lewis Hamilton finished fifth at Interlagos circuit.
Hamilton had been at least fifth for most of the race, but at the start of the penultimate lap he was overtaken and slipped back into sixth place. In spite of switching to wet weather tyres as rain began to fall, his McLaren car was struggling to grip the circuit.
But the British driver had a massive stroke of luck when Timo Glock, lying in fourth, slowed dramatically on the final lap, losing his 18-second advantage over Hamilton. Glock, who had stayed on dry tyres in spite of the rain, fell back to sixth place, pushing Hamilton up to the fifth place he needed to win the title by just a single point.
“I couldn’t believe it. At the last corner I managed to get past Glock,” Hamilton said. “I was thinking, ‘Do I have it, do I have it?’ I was ecstatic.”
With the victory of Fileppe Massa,Ferrari makes constructors' title for a record 16th time.
